Context
The problem. DN readers open the app to catch up fast — markets, breaking business news, the morning read. A news app lives or dies on its feed: if scrolling stutters, images pop in late, or the app crashes mid-article, readers go elsewhere.
My role
I led DN Media Group’s iOS team (as a consultant via Cefalo) building the app, owning architecture decisions, code quality, and delivery. DN is the flagship of the news apps the team shipped for the group’s brands, alongside TradeWinds, Upstream, Fiskeribladet, IntraFish, Recharge and Europower.
As Staff Software Engineer I still build on it: Swift and SwiftUI features shipped with product and design from discovery to release.
Technical highlights
- A feed that never hitches. Ultra-smooth scrolling and optimized performance, so the feed stays seamless however far readers go.
- Modular architecture. Modularization and team-wide best practices cut release time by 60%.
- Reliability as a feature. A 99.3% crash-free rate across a 290K-download install base.
- Sign-in and reading, in SwiftUI. Sign-in and authentication flows, and an in-app PDF reader.
Outcome
290K+ downloads, 30K+ daily and 200K+ weekly active users, and a 99.3% crash-free rate — plus a modular codebase and release process that ships 60% faster.
