Context
The problem. SPENN set out to make everyday payments cashless in Rwanda and Tanzania: transfer money and pay digitally from a phone. When the app is the wallet, every transaction has to be secure, every step has to be clear, and the app has to be there when people need it.
My role
I built the SPENN iOS app as a consultant to SPENN (via Cefalo), delivering business-critical features from start to finish, inside the constraints of financial regulation.
Technical highlights
- Security built for finance. Encryption, SSL pinning and advanced data-protection measures keep users’ transactions safe and guard against attacks.
- Step-by-step transaction flows. Secure flows that walk people through each payment.
- Compliance and availability. Features shipped end to end in line with financial regulations, with high availability.
Outcome
A payments app used by 30K people a week, launched in two countries — and the security foundation I still bring to every app: SSL pinning, encryption and the OWASP Mobile Top 10.
